he Appeal Courts today reissued the interim order given to Vice Chancellors of the Jaywardenapura, Wayamba and Ruhunu universities on May 30 with a termination on the initial order by tomorrow. A fresh interim order had been issued to be effective from tomorrow until end of June.
The revision had been made at the hearing of the cases filed by the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) at the Appeal Courts today, challenging the validity of the interim order which was issued on the VCs of the universities on accepting the resignations tendered by department heads of the universities.
“It was brought to the notice of the Courts that a stay order can be issued only for a period of two weeks. Therefore the initial order was reissued,” FUTA Spokesman Dr. Mahim Mendis said speaking to Daily Mirror Online.
Speaking further he said that they have firmly resolved to continue and further strengthen their trade union actions, demanding for a substantial raise in their salaries. (Lakna Paranamanna)
