The Federation of University Teachers Association stated that the country's political leadership has failed to note the difference between the Ministry Officials and University Lecturers.
Spokesperson of the Federation Dr. Mahim Mendis stated that through this it appears that the country is led by unwise leaders. He added that it is due to this reason that they have not yet received a solution to their salary crisis.
Dr. Mendis went on to state that university lecturers are not being given their rightful place due to those who ruled the country not having had a university education.
In response, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Nandimithra Ekanayake stated that the Minister of Higher Education, the Secretary to the Ministry and members of the University Grants Commission have had a university education and they are individuals with a vision and knowledge enough to participate in any intellectual debate.
Ekanayake added that regardless of these officials, the problem should be addressed at its core.
He further stated that a solution can be obtained not through strict action but through negotiations.
