Chief Government Whip, Water Supply and Drainage Minister, Dinesh Gunwardena told Parliament that a sum of Rs 78,200,000 had been paid as salaries to ministers and deputy ministers for the two months from May 01 to July 01 last year.
Answering a question raised by UNP Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake, the Minister said that in addition to the salaries the ministers and deputy ministers are entitled to allowances for transport, housing, communication, offices, newspapers and entertainment.

Calculation of average salary:
Salaries for ministers and deputies per month = 78.2/2 millions = 39.1 millions
Average salary for a minister or a deputy minister per month = 39.1/(61+31) millions = 0.425 millions = Rs. 425,000/-
