University academics who resigned from their posts over salary demands are to go overseas for employment.
The Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) said that some university lecturers had already gone overseas and more were expected to follow suit.
FUTA warned of a complete breakdown of the university system as a result of the government’s failure to address their concerns.
Higher Education Minister S. B. Dissanayake has refused to give in to the FUTA demand for a pay hike for University academic staff. He has also said that he is not in a position to meet the demands for a salary hike and added that University lecturers make extra money anyway. University lecturers, heads of departments, coordinators of units as well as hostel wardens and directors have tendered their resignation letters as part of their trade union action. (News Now.lk)
