University student intake to increase - SB

(Colombo-Lankapuvath) The students intake for local universities for next academic year would not reduce due to the proposed foreign student intake, Higher Education Minister S.B Dissanayakestressed.

Addressing a media briefing today (07) ,the Minister said the Ministry planned to increase the number of students cadre to the universities this year up to 22,500 which was 21,000 last year.

Infrastructure facilities would be developed in universities comparatively to the foreignstudent attachment. Therefore, there was no need to panic over foreign student enrollment for the local universities as it would benefit local students as well, he added.

The percentage of foreign student admission has been increased 0.5% up to 5%, he revealed. Minister further said that promotion programmes would be launched in order to attract foreign students in diplomatic level.
