Academics attached to the Moratuwa and Ruhuna universities have been threatened, the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) said. President of FUTA Dr Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri said that some lecturers are even monitored by military intelligence officers. He said that despite the government inviting lecturers who are on protest to return to work tomorrow (Monday) so far nothing has been given on writing. The university lecturers are protesting over salary demands and other issues. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri said that they have already placed their demands before the government.
