FUTA will not end its trade union struggle based on the Cabinet paper released today, as it is only a policy level document that contains no concrete solutions to demands, Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) spokesman Dr. Mahim Mendis said today.
He told Daily Mirror that FUTA received the cabinet paper containing the eight decisions reached on the academics’ demands, but said the academics were disappointed with the outcome.
“The document does not refer to any of our major demands including the 6% GDP allocation to the education sector or about a resolution to the salary grievances. We urge the government to provide solutions to our demands with reference to the 2011 interim solution,” Dr. Mendis said. (Lakna Paranamanna)
